Crock-Pot is one of my favorite brands, partly because they simply have so many different models, including various sizes, styles and even colors. At the same time, the brand has a strong reputation and often produces models that are popular among customers.
In this case, we’re taking a look at the Cook and Carry range that Crock-Pot offers. The focus here is on slow cookers that are very portable and will not spill even if turned upside down. This makes it easy to take them in the car with you to events. The idea isn’t particularly unusual and some other brands have similar ranges, like Hamilton Beach’s Stay or Go slow cookers. Even Bella has a locking lid and Chefman has its own version with a carrying handle.
However, even though the idea isn’t that unusual, each brand does have their own specific approaches. Because of this, some products end up being better than others. So, let’s see the various options that Crock-Pot provides, and if it's right for you! If you think that you don't really need the lockdown lid and would rather not have the rubber seal around your lid, then read about the Crock-Pot Smart Pot line of models, or even standard crock-pot slow cookers and see if one of those would be better for you.

4-Quart Manual Slow Cookers
SCCPVL400-R Red 4-Quart Slow Cooker
- Model Number: SCCPVL400-R
- Price: NA [November 2, 2016 8:27 AM]
- Size: 4 quarts
At 4 quarts, this slow cooker is on the small side but it’s still large enough for many uses, especially if you have a smaller family or don’t tend to want leftovers. As a part of the Cook and Carry range, the key thing about the product is the latches you see on the side. These help to hold the lid in place and reduce the risk of anything spilling.
You will see the same latches throughout this range and they seem like a secure way of holding the lid in place. Reviews suggest that the style isn’t entirely leakproof but that will also be true with just about any lid locking system. Regardless, the locks would reduce the amount of leakage and would certainly prevent the lid from coming off entirely during transit.
SCCPVL400-S 4-Quart Slow Cooker
- Model Number: SCCPVL400-S
- Price: NA [November 2, 2016 8:31 AM]
- Size: 4 quarts
This model is basically the same as the previous one, just in silver instead of red. While the silver may not be as appealing visually, you might find that it fits in better with the rest of your kitchen.
But, color choice aside, both models receive good reviews on Amazon, averaging a rating of 4.5 stars across 177 reviews. With that rating in mind, either model can be a good pick, regardless of whether you plan on moving your slow cooker or using it in one place.
5-Quart Manual Slow Cookers
SCCPVL500-MO Green 5-Quart Slow Cooker
- Model Number: SCCPVL500-MO
- Size: 5 quarts
There are two main differences between this slow cooker and the previous one that I mentioned. The first of those is the size and the other is the pattern. In particular, this is a slightly larger model, holding 5 quarts instead of 4. Likewise, the pattern is on the unusual side and seems to be targeted at outdoorsmen (and women, presumably).
Neither the size or the pattern should have much impact on the functioning, so this slow cooker should be as effective as the previous examples.
6-Quart Manual Slow Cookers
SCCPVL600S 6-Quart Manual Slow Cooker
- Model Number: SCCPVL600-S
- Size: 6 quarts
Once again, this slow cooker is a step up in terms of size, although we’re back to the rather dull silver color. This is actually a slow cooker that I have used myself and I was extremely impressed with it. Honestly, that’s not too much of a surprise, as there are nearly 2,000 reviews for the slow cooker on Amazon and most of those are positive.
Now, in terms of functions, this slow cooker is on the basic side. This means that there is no ability to set time and no automatic keep warm feature. In fact, there isn’t even an indicator light so you know when the device is on. But, in most cases, you aren’t going to need those features. Instead, you can make great slow cooker food with basic devices and it is clear that this one performs very well.

SCCPVL600-R Red 6-Quart Manual Slow Cooker
- Model Number: SCCPVL600-R
- Size: 6 quarts
As you’ve probably already guessed, this slow cooker is just a recolored version of the previous model. Now, red isn’t particularly unique either but it’s more interesting than all the silver and black slow cookers that seem to be everywhere.
Because the underlying slow cooker is basically the same, this model is another popular and reliable option. Plus, both versions come it at around the same price, which isn’t too bad for a decent slow cooker.
SCCPVL600-B Black 6-Quart Manual Slow Cooker
- Model Number: SCCPVL600-B
- Size: 6 quarts
Here is one more option and the model number makes it clear that this is also a recolor. So, once again, you have a decent slow cooker that seems to perform well and is also fairly low in terms of price.
Because the three models are almost the same thing, you could just pick based on the color you like. My personal pick is the red one but I imagine it would depend on your own preferences and what else is in your kitchen.
6-Quart Programmable Slow Cookers
SCCPVL610-S Programmable 6-Quart Slow Cooker
- Model Number: SCCPVL610-S
- Size: 6 quarts
This is another slow cooker model that I’ve actually tried and reviewed. It’s also a popular one on Amazon, with close to 3,000 different reviews and an average rating of 4.2 stars. Now, that rating isn’t quite as good as the manual model from above but it’s still pretty decent.
Personally, I was very impressed with the model and didn’t have any issues at all. Instead, it was one of my favorite 6-quart programmable slow cookers and compares well to similar models from other companies. Besides that, it produces great food.

SCCPVL610-R-A Programmable Red 6-Quart Slow Cooker
- Model Number: SCCPVL610-R-A
- Price: NA [November 2, 2016 8:47 AM]
- Size: 6 quarts
Once again, this model is basically a recolor of the previous one and even shares the same listing on Amazon. As such, you could go with either model and get the same performance.
However, it is worth noting that the color does look a little bit pink/purple in the image, rather than red. It’s incredibly hard to tell color from pictures online, so be aware that the color you actually get may not be precisely what you expect.
If those reviews weren't enough, don't forget that we also have a list of standard Crock-Pot models worth checking out.
