Paleo-Friendly Restaurants in New York City

Eating out when you have any dietary requirements outside of the norm can be hard, and when you’re a paleo eater, and are cutting out a number of foods, things get even trickier. Back in December, we posted a paleo guide to eating out, and now, we’ve picked out some of the best NYC restaurants for making that guide work for you.

They all have their plus-points – some are 100% organic, some completely gluten-free, some great for meat-eaters, and others great for vegans. A few even deliver right to your door if you fancy take-out! So there’s something here for everyone! Enjoy, and don’t forget to use our tips in our guide – know your foods and always ask for what you want!

The Little Beet

The Little Beet

Cute name, right? It gets better too. This ‘100% guiltin’ free’ food enterprise has ‘one simple philosophy: To serve real food deliciously.’ The Little Beet has five different locations, four of which are in New York – my, aren’t we spoiled! There’s plenty to choose from, with seasonal specials including ‘Cauliflower Leek Soup’ and ‘Carrot Ginger Soup’, and a juice range that will make you swoon! Oh, and they also provide outside catering!

Spring Street Natural Kitchen

Spring Street Natural Kitchen

Spring Street’s ‘Wok Station’ provides an awesome paleo menu. Simple, clean veggies with your choice of protein. There’s also a great range of salads and some plain meat dishes – just swap out potato fries for sweet potato fries.

If you happen to pop in for brunch, there’s an amaaaaazing range of eggs to choose from. The restaurant has been in business for 42 years, and even all those years ago was inspired by clean eating and living – so we can rest assured they know what they’re doing in the kitchen!

Bareburger

Bareburger

Bareburger love organic, fair-trade, and homemade foods, and hate pesticides and GMO. We don’t blame them. Their restaurants make life super-easy for paleo eaters by providing an on-menu option to use veggies to wrap your burger in! As well as burgers, they serve gorgeous, fresh salads and a range of sides, including sweet potato fries. With branches spotted all over New York, you’re sure to find one near to you, too!

Hu Kitchen

Hu Kitchen

Hu Kitchen is passionate about changing the way that we eat, and fast. They refer to themselves as ‘a haven for all things human’, which is a pretty appealing description if you ask us! Hu Kitchen is all for clean, organic, and gluten-free eating, and against all things processed or genetically modified.

Offerings include dishes such as ‘Organic Primal Kale Salad’, ‘Wild Meatloaf’, and ‘Primal Breakfast Sandwich’, as well as a host of veggie-packed juices, organic teas, and their own paleo chocolate range.

Siggy’s Good Food

Siggy’s Good Food

If you eat at Siggy’s, you’ll be eating organic, non-GMO, fresh food, because that’s entirely what they’re all about. As for being paleo-friendly, whatever isn’t already paleo can usually be made so, such as the ‘Almond Coconut Chicken Milanese’ (just skip the rice) and the salads (just skip the cheese). Veggies are the order of the day, every day, with a wide range of veggies sides to choose from, and a big choice of salads. And, bonus, they deliver!

The Meatball Shop

The Meatball Shop

You didn’t know you needed a shop just for meatballs…until now. The chicken meatballs don’t contain gluten or dairy and are great for the paleo diet.

Paleo eaters will find ‘The Kitchen Sink’ the best; you choose your meatballs, then your sauce, add an egg, and you’ll have it served on a bed of veggies! The website has a handy table so that you can check the ingredients and potential allergens, so you can easily ensure that you’re eating paleo!

Jack’s Wife Freda

Jack’s Wife Freda

With a name based on a sweet love story, Jack’s Wife Freda believes in ‘revising familiar twists on everyday food.’ If the websites pictures alone aren’t enough to have you running through their doors, perhaps a look at the menu will do it.

Depending on which of their two restaurants you visit, you’ll find items like ‘Fried Zucchini Chips’, ‘Whole Roasted Garlic’, the ‘Breakfast Bowl’ (just skip the quinoa), and delicious salads. Don’t feel like going out? They deliver too!

Foragers

Foragers

It’s all in the name. Here, you’ll find the kinds of foods that our ancestors would have foraged for. Ingredients are organic and locally sourced, and you can even buy some of them from from their very own shop. Order whatever roast meats they have on and eat with fresh veggies or salad. And just in case a restaurant and a shop wasn’t quite enough for you – there’s also a farm and a market!

Dig Inn Seasonal Market

Dig Inn Seasonal Market

Dig Inn prides itself on serving ‘real, good food for everybody’. And everybody includes us paleo bods. Menu items vary slightly between all of the NY locations but all of the Dig Inn restaurants serve local, fresh ingredients. ‘Marketplates’ are an awesomely flexible option, where customers can choose from items such as ‘Charred Chicken’ and ‘Grilled Flank Steak’ to be served on a ‘bed of grains or greens’ along with two sides of their choice. Beverage choices include cold-pressed juices and house-brewed teas. Tempted? We’re not surprised…

Bluestone Lane West Village Collective Café

Bluestone Lane West Village Collective Café

This Australian-themed café serves fresh, healthy food, with plenty of gluten-free and vegan options. Paleo highlights include ‘Green Baked Eggs’ (minus the toast), their fresh salads, and the ‘Sweet & Spicy Nut Jar’. Choose to eat outdoors to people-watch on the sidewalk, or stay inside and enjoy the beach café design and atmosphere. Either way, the food tastes just as good!

Sun in Bloom

Sun in Bloom

Sun in Bloom describes itself as ‘a conscious company committed to sharing clean delicious wholesome and living foods’, which means that it’s all for eating gluten-free, raw, and vegan. Collard green wraps are offered as an alternative to burger buns, salads play a big part in the menu, and snacks include kale chips and ‘Raw Alkalizing Green Soup’. This place really is the clean eater’s heaven!
