Over time, the options for shampoo just become more and more complicated. But, if you look in a grocery store, you’ll notice that everything is packed with chemicals and artificial ingredients. It’s hard to know what all of those things are doing to your hair, but chances are, it isn’t good.
What’s the alternative?
The creators at Etsy specialize in homemade products, and this includes a wide selection of different types of shampoo. The typical shampoo (and conditioner) in a bottle is present, of course, but as are some more uncommon approaches, including shampoo bars, dry shampoo and soap that can be used for everything, including your hair.
This is a food blog, so I was particularly interested in shampoo products that were inspired by food in some way or another. Most of the time, I found shampoos with fruity flavors (which is to be expected), but there are some more unexpected ones in the mix as well.
Lemon Cupcake Shampoo Bar
Without a doubt, my favorite thing about this particular shampoo bar is that it looks like a cupcake. Pretty cool!
Funnel Cake Milky Shampoo
This liquid shampoo takes its inspiration from funnel cake, which is a lot of fun if you like the smell of cake.
Peppermint Cocoa Bath Whip
Admittedly, this bath whip is a bit unusual, but it does act as a form of cream shampoo – and the flavors of peppermint and cocoa are always appealing.
Pink Sugar Shampoo Bar
This shampoo bar is another sweet option. I always think flavors like this are great for dieters, because you get the smell of something sweet but you can’t actually eat it (regardless of how good it smells).
Creamy Pear Whipped Soap
This whipped soap takes its scent from pears. Personally, I have no idea how you use cream shampoo, but clearly it is a product type that exists.
Grapefruit, Lemon and Cedarwood Organic Shampoo
Okay, I know cedarwood isn’t a food, but two out of three isn’t bad. Right?
Happy Birthday Soap
This birthday cake soap is a little special because you can use it for pretty much everywhere, including your hair.
Red Berry Smoothie Shampoo Bar
I’m sure I don’t have to tell you where this product gets its flavor inspiration. I do also love the combination of two colors that the soap uses.
Carrot, Egg and Honey Shampoo Soap
Carrot, egg and honey seem like an odd combination for soap, although they do feel a little reminiscent of carrot cake.
Pink Grapefruit Shampoo
As a shampoo flavor, pink grapefruit makes a lot of sense. It would be nice and fresh, which would be perfect for kicking off the day.
Pumpkin Pie Dry Shampoo
Dry shampoo is a little bit unusual, but it does have its uses, especially in situations where having a shower just isn’t a viable option.
Sun Ripened Raspberry Shampoo Bar
I love the smell and flavor of raspberries and I imagine they would be great in soap or in shampoo.
Whipped Chocolate Hair Mask
I’ll admit that I don’t actually know what a hair mask is, but I do know that any chocolate-themed hair product has my approval.
Cranberry, Vanilla and Peach Soap
Here’s a shampoo soap product that mixes three flavors into one. I’m not sure what the end result would smell like, but if nothing else, it would smell fresh and a bit fruity.
‘Java Jolt’ Coffee Set
Using coffee as a flavor for body products is a bit unusual, but if you’re a major coffee fan, why not?
Minted Cake Shampoo
Mint does tend to refreshing and this shampoo would make a nice change for anyone who is sick of fruity shampoos.
Cherry Almond Shampoo Bar
Cherries and almonds are both pretty appealing in their own right, so this shampoo bar is likely to smell pretty nice.
Cinnamon Almond Bars
Cinnamon always reminds me of fall, which would make these shampoo bars particularly relevant in fall and in winter.
Coffee Butter with Jojoba
Here’s another example of coffee in shampoo. Like the previous example, this one does actually use coffee as an ingredient, so it’s not just a coffee essential oil that you’re getting.
Strawberry Harvest Shampoo Bar
The shape of these shampoo bars is a little unusual, but they do look pretty cool. I can also think of plenty of people who would love a strawberry scent in their hair.
Pomegranate Shampoo and Conditioner
Pomegranate has become pretty popular in general, so finding it as a shampoo flavor really make sense.
Organic Walnut and Apricot Soap
I don’t know about you, but walnuts and apricots always remind me of baking. Yummy…
Mint Chocolate Dry Shampoo
I would suggest being a little careful with this dry shampoo. It looks like (and would smell like) a mint cocoa mix, and you wouldn’t want someone making that mistake.
Black Raspberry Shampoo Bars
I really love the color of these shampoo bars, especially the way they look with the lighting in the photo.
Birthday Cake Shampoo
Personally, I think birthday cake shampoo would make an absolutely perfect birthday present, especially if you want something a little bit amusing.
Crisp Apple Shampoo and Body Bar
The color of this shampoo bar isn’t exactly the green of apples, but then again that color would be hard to pull off. I love the idea of using apple as a scent for shampoo though, it would certainly be something different.
Bacon Beer Soap
Here’s one for all you beer and bacon lovers out there. Like most beer soaps, this product is designed to be used on your body and in your hair, even though it’s considered soap not shampoo.
Mango and Almond Shampoo Bars
Almond seems to combine well with fruity flavors and this combination of almond and mango sounds good enough to eat.
Goats Milk Apple Cinnamon Bar
Here’s another shampoo bar that strongly reminds me of fall. The use of goats milk is a nice touch that makes the shampoo bar stand out a bit.
Raspberry Cocoa Clay
This one isn’t actually shampoo, but it’s a hair product, so it got included on the list. Besides, cocoa and raspberry? That sounds like dessert to me.
Pumpkin Spice Shampoo and Conditioner
We see pumpkin spice everywhere in fall, so why not in shampoo and conditioner too?
Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo
In fairness, apple cider vinegar isn’t exactly a food, but it is pretty close.
Fresh Picked Apples Shampoo
The smell of fresh apples is amazing. If this product comes anywhere close to that smell, it would be fantastic.
Chocolate Strawberry Shampoo and Conditioner
I mentioned chocolate and raspberry for a previous item, but what about chocolate and strawberry? To me, that combination sounds perfectly suited for a romantic gift.
Sparkling Apples and Pears
This particular Etsy creator has a large range of products, including soaps and shampoos and I had a hard time picking which product to feature in this list.
Cocoa Butter Mint Natural Shampoo Bar
This shampoo bar uses cocoa butter and mint essential oils to give the flavor, which is why you don’t see the flavor reflected in the color at all. Still, the bars do look pretty nice.
Hot Chocolate Shampoo
I’m a sucker for anything chocolate flavored – although I do wish this shampoo was brown to reflect the flavor.
Gingerbread Cookie Shampoo Bar
The creator of this shampoo bar did a great job of highlighting the gingerbread cookie aspect of the product. I particularly love the sugar detail on top.
Lemon and Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo Bar
This is another shampoo bar that would be quite refreshing, particularly because of the lemon.
Apple Shampoo and Conditioner
There isn’t much more that I can say about coffee as a shampoo flavor, but I do like the packaging for this particular product.
Coffee Butter Shampoo Bar
I really like the dark color of these shampoo bars and the bar also has some chocolate overtones, which is doubly cool.
Chocolate and Peppermint Dry Shampoo
To close things off, here’s one more dry shampoo. This one looks less like hot cocoa mix, which is probably a good thing.
