There are many stunning ice cream brands out there, offering countless different flavors and styles. But, they’re not all the same. Some simply don’t taste good, while others are too watery to be satisfying. Tillamook is different, especially when we’re talking about the best Tillamook ice cream flavors.
In fact, Tillamook is often seen as one of the best ice cream brands out there. This is partly because they rely on better ingredients, more cream, and less air. That combination creates a rich and delicious frozen treat that stands out above all the rest.
Tillamook doesn’t have an ice cream of the month club, but that’s okay, plenty of other companies do. Besides, Tillamook ice cream is easy to find, so you’re not going to miss out. The big question is, which flavor are you going to try first? Some are chocolaty, some are sweet, some are simple, and some are complex.
While everyone is going to have their own preferences, some flavors are much more popular than others. The 17 listed here are particularly powerful and regularly top Tillamook ‘best of’ lists. So, which one do you want to try first?
The Best Tillamook Ice Cream Flavors (With Pictures!)
Mudslide
Mudslide often tops the list of Tillamook flavors. It has plenty going on too, starting with a chocolate, peanut, and salt-based ice cream that then uses chocolate chips and melted fudge as mix-ins.
These ingredients create a rich and flavor-packed treat that’s instantly satisfying. Seriously, even a few spoonfuls of mudslide ice cream can be enough to satisfy a sugar craving (whether you can stop at just a couple of spoonfuls is another story entirely).
Be cautious with this sweet treat though. It’s amazing. There’s no denying that, but it’s also intense. Sometimes it’s a bit too much, especially if you’ve just eaten a heavy meal.
Chocolaty Chip Cookie Dough
Cookie dough is one of those universally loved flavors and it always tastes delicious (even many low quality brands do this flavor surprisingly well).
There’s also simply something comforting about the cookie dough flavor. Perhaps it reminds us of being safe and comfortable at home, long before we had the worries of life to deal with.
Regardless, Tillamook has its version of chocolate chip cookie dough down pat. The treat starts with cookie dough flavored ice cream, with pieces of chocolate and balls of cookie dough mixed throughout it.
The only complaint is that there aren’t enough cookie dough balls. But, getting that balance right is almost impossible. If Tillamook added more mix-ins, some people would complain about there being too much cookie dough and not enough ice cream.
Cookies & Cream
Ah… how can we go past cookies and cream? It’s such a classic flavor that continues to be popular.
Tillamook’s version relies on their French vanilla ice cream, which is interspersed with bits of chocolate cream sandwiches. It’s a fantastic treat for anyone who loves cookies and cream – and it isn’t over the top at all.
The ice cream itself is worth mentioning too. The base of the treat is Tillamook’s French vanilla ice cream. This vanilla ice cream is less complex than Tillamook’s other vanilla ice creams, which isn’t ideal.
Still, it’s not all bad. Using a simple vanilla base allows the cookies and cream pieces to truly stand out. And, while French vanilla isn’t Tillamook’s most popular version of vanilla, it’s still delicious.
Chocolate Peanut Butter
Chocolate and peanut butter. It’s another classic combo.
Tillamook doesn’t hold anything back with this ice cream flavor, giving you a truly decadent treat. It starts out with rich chocolate ice cream, which is delicious all on its own.
The ice cream is then contrasted by a salted peanut butter swirl. Adding salt to the peanut butter works exceptionally well, as the dessert would be far too sweet otherwise.
Marionberry Pie
This is a regional flavor, so you can’t find it everywhere. But, it’s certainly worth looking out for.
In case you’re not familiar, marionberry is a variety of blackberries that is native to the region of Marion County, Oregon. Tillamook hails from Oregon too, so it’s not too surprising that they’ve found a way to honor their home state.
As the name suggests, this isn’t your typical fruit ice cream. Instead, it’s designed to taste much like Marionberry pie, complete with the berries themselves, pie crust pieces, and vanilla ice cream.
This is a fantastic flavor for people who find fruity ice creams tasty, but a little too boring. After all, most fruit ice creams (like Oregon dark cherry below) just mix fruit and ice cream together, which can feel a little simplistic.
Oregon Dark Cherry
Here’s one more fruit flavor for your consideration. Oregon dark cherry also uses vibrant fresh fruit in creamy ice cream.
The cherries work exceptionally well, as they have a rich flavor that’s even more impressive than the peaches and raspberries we highlighted earlier. Even the ice cream itself tastes remarkable.
Another cool thing is that the ice cream features actual pieces of Oregon cherries. This is worth mentioning, as many recipes just focus on cherry puree and don’t include bits of the fruit at all. Having actual fruit is always better because this gives you more texture variation.
Caramel Butter Pecan
While this isn’t Tillamook’s most popular flavor, it is a fast favorite, especially for people who love caramel.
So, what can you expect? Well, it starts with caramel ice cream that then has a ripple of caramel running through it, plus plenty of butter pecans.
The caramel is what makes this ice cream really stand out. After all, there are plenty of other butter pecan ice creams on the market, but few include this much caramel. You’re also getting an excellent contrast between the nuttiness of the pecans and the sweetness of the caramel.
Monster Cookie
This flavor is like cookies and cream ice cream – on steroids. It includes almost every cookie mix-in you can imagine, like oatmeal, M&Ms, peanut butter, and chocolate chips.
The ice cream itself has a subtle cookie dough flavor and also features a salted peanut butter swirl. It’s a delicious and fantastic ice cream, one that keeps customers coming back for more.
There is one big limitation though, the oats. Having oats in a cookie makes sense, especially if the cookie has plenty of other mix-ins too. But, including them in ice cream is pretty strange. The oats don’t work as well as they could and quickly end up mushy.
Are the oats reason enough to avoid this ice cream? Not at all! This flavor is still worth all the hype that goes with it and it’s certainly worth trying at least once.
Vanilla Bean
There are countless vanilla ice creams out there. Tillamook even has a few versions, including old fashioned vanilla and French vanilla. But, their vanilla bean is easily the best and gets raving reviews every time.
The ice cream is exactly what you’d expect – plain creamy vanilla ice cream that’s packed with flakes of crushed vanilla beans. The vanilla beans increase the vanilla flavor of the ice cream, making it much more exciting.
Tillamook’s vanilla bean is even good enough that you can enjoy it on its own (which certainly isn’t true for all vanilla ice creams). Or, you can serve it with an endless selection of desserts, including hot apple pie.
Peaches & Cream
Peaches & Cream is an under-recognized star in the Tillamook lineup. It’s a fantastic choice for anyone who loves fruit, as the peaches are still juicy and really are the real deal.
The treat doesn’t just stop with ice cream and peach pieces either. There’s also a peach sauce swirl that ripples through the ice cream.
Beyond the peach pieces and peach swirl, you have relatively plain ice cream. Some find the ice cream underwhelming, while others feel that the subtle flavor creates a fantastic contrast.
The creamy ice cream and contrasting peaches are excellent when you’re sick of over-the-top flavor-packed ice cream.
White Chocolate Raspberry
White chocolate and raspberry is a combination that’s hard to beat. It works well because white chocolate is sweet and creamy, while raspberries burst with flavor.
Tillamook uses authentic raspberry puree in their ice cream, which makes the berry flavor pop. The white ice cream is exactly as it should be too, with a sweet creaminess that’s hard to ignore.
You could make the ice cream even more exciting by piling fresh raspberries on top.
Like peaches & cream, this is a perfect ice cream if you want something fruity that isn’t too rich. Many of the other ice cream flavors rely on chocolate and they can easily get intense.
Udderly Chocolate
As the name suggests, this treat is for everyone who adores chocolate. It’s a combination of milk chocolate and white chocolate ice cream, with chocolate bits of both flavors thrown into the mix.
The style means that every mouthful is guaranteed to be rich in chocolate.
Then there’s that use of two types of chocolate ice cream. This gives you much more flavor contrast than a version that just focuses on milk chocolate ice cream.
Mint Chocolate Chip
Mint chocolate chip ice cream doesn’t appeal to everyone. But, to those who love it, it is an amazing flavor that offers sweetness and plenty of punch.
It’s also an easy flavor to get wrong. Some brands make their ice cream far too minty or rely on chocolate chips that are just too sweet.
Tillamook has a fantastic balance. Their ice cream is certainly minty, but not overwhelmingly so. The ice cream is then contrasted by chocolate chips, which are sweet but not too sweet.
Still… while this is one of Tillamook’s best flavors, chocolate mint still isn’t for everyone. Some people will love the flavor. Others will think it tastes much like toothpaste with sugar.
That’s okay though. There are plenty of other amazing options to choose from.
Coffee Almond Fudge
Who can go past coffee in ice cream? Seriously, many of us already love the taste of coffee. Mixing it into ice cream lets us enjoy it in a completely new way.
This flavor isn’t just coffee though. It starts that way, then has pieces of creamy fudge mixed in, plus some almond pieces for extra crunch.
Coffee ice cream tends to rely on real coffee. This means that you’re actually getting a decent amount of caffeine per serving (perhaps as much as a cup of coffee or even more). This means you’ll get an energy kick from the caffeine.
The caffeine isn’t a bad thing, unless you’re already consuming too much or are sensitive to the chemical. If you’re concerned, there are many non-coffee flavors for you to try.
Chocolate Chip
Tillamook’s chocolate chip ice cream is what exactly what you’d expect – vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips. Still, it’s an impressive treat, as the vanilla is sweet and creamy, while the chocolate chips are large and are just sweet enough.
This isn’t the most exciting treat in Tillamook’s range. You’ll probably finish the tub without any issue, but might want to try one of their more exciting flavors next time.
That said, there’s nothing wrong with familiar and simple ice cream. Sometimes you don’t want anything excessively complicated or sweet.
Caramel Toffee Crunch
This ice cream is pretty obvious from the name. It’s still exciting, though, as most brands don’t feature a flavor like this.
Caramel toffee crunch starts with caramel ice cream, which immediately makes it amazing. Then you have pieces of toffee, pecans, and almonds as mix-ins.
The ice cream certainly lives up to the ‘crunch’ part of its name. Whether this is a good or bad thing depends on what you’re looking for. Let’s just say, if you don’t want to chew on your ice cream, this isn’t the right flavor for you.
Malted Moo Shake
If chocolate chip was a little too simple for you, Tillamook’s malted moo shake ice cream could be perfect.
It’s a similar idea as their chocolate flavor, but rather than vanilla ice cream, this version starts with malted vanilla ice cream. The malt taste is distinct, although it’s not incredibly overwhelming.
Then there are chocolate fudge chips added in. That’s right – chocolate fudge chips. These are a little like regular chocolate chips, but they’re creamier and richer than boring old chocolate chips.
Is malted moo shake better than Tillamook’s chocolate chip ice cream? That all comes down to your preferences. Some people will prefer the sweet and more complex malted moo shake, while others will stick to the more familiar chocolate chip instead.
