Top 11 Essential Oil of the Month Clubs

Bottles of essential oil

For those who are enthusiasts, casual dabblers, or even professionals, essential oil of the month clubs are a fabulous way to experiment with different oils more economically. Many essential oil subscriptions offer multiple bottles each month, which is ideal for those looking to build their essential oil collection.

And, why not? Essential oils have a rich history and continue to be popular today.

For thousands of years, essential oils have been used for various purposes. They were first discovered in ancient India, Persia, and Egypt, about 5,000 years ago.

The first essential oils created were made by putting different parts of the plants in oils. However, in later years the Arabs invented the first essential oil distillation process.

Distillation is still the most common process to remove the oils from the plant.

As essential oil use spread throughout the world, physicians began to use them for their medicinal properties.

Hippocrates was one of the first famous physicians to embrace and promote the use of essential oils. Later, Rome started using oils in baths to help improve health through better hygiene.

The popularity of essential oils took a severe hit during the dark ages when bathing was believed to be a sin. Additionally, as medicine evolved, physicians used oils less and less in favor of more advanced healing methods.

It wasn’t until the Renaissance period that they started to make a comeback, though they never regained their original influence in the medical community.

Today, essential oils are most often associated with massage therapy and home diffusers. However, there is an increase in using essential oils in the home for homeopathic remedies, and even some holistic specialty physicians are recommending their use.

Plant Therapy

Plant Therapy, founded by Chris Jones, strives to provide top quality essential oils from ethical and sustainable sources. However, the company’s primary focus is on treating people with the highest level of integrity. They pride themselves on always putting the needs of their customers and employees first.

The cost of the monthly subscription is $20 per month. The membership includes a 2.5 to 3.0 ml bottle of a new and exclusive essential oil, only available to club members.

Additionally, all members who sign up for a subscription will receive a 25% discount on the subscription and exclusive products.

These boxes ship out in January, April, July, and October.

The Herb Stop

Aroma box with 4 bottles of essential oils sitting outside on a wicker basket. From left to right caraway, peppermint, lemon verbena, and a roll-on.

The Herb Stop, founded by Leilah, a Master Herbalist, in 1992, is located in Arizona. It started as a small storefront but quickly grew beyond just being an herb store.

They soon began to offer Herb Certification classes and apprenticeship programs, requiring them to find a larger building. In 2002, Natalie, another Master Herbalist, partnered with Leilah, and The Herb Stop became even more successful.

Today, they offer more than 2,500 different herbal products and maintain both a retail and online store, plus a manufacturing warehouse.

The Herb Stop was recognized in several publications and won multiple awards for their outstanding products. A couple of the awards they’ve received are: Health Advocate of the Month from Citizens for Health and Best of Phoenix from The New Times.

They have two different subscription delivery options available, monthly or quarterly. The boxes cost the same and contain the same items.

AromaBox Essential Oil Subscription – $24.95 – Includes specially themed oils, 3 bottles of oils, and 1 roll-on oil, along with information about the oil choices for the month and tips on how to best use the oils.

Simply Earth

Illustration of essential oil subscription boxes. the first box says monthly box and contains aromatherapy inhaler, lava beads, reeds, and 4 essential oils. The box on the right says free big bonus box if you subscribe today that contains coconut oil, beeswax, fractional coconut oil, almond oil, 6 5ml bottles, and 6 roll-on bottles.

Simply Earth was born from frustration and stinky feet. The only remedy for Katie’s smelly feet was a blend of essential oils. Unfortunately, the only place Simply Earth’s founders could get the oils they wanted was at essential oil parties.

The founders of Simply Earth were frustrated with the hassle and price associated with the oils and soon found out they were not alone.

It wasn’t long before the inspiration for Simply Earth became a reality, and they started their own essential oil company. It was their goal to bring quality essential oils to the masses without the high costs and hassles.

Simply Earth offers a broad range of products. They have a variety of single oils, blends, and kits. Additionally, they offer an array of accessories to make their customer’s buying experience even easier. Some of the accessories available are:

  • Wooden oil boxes
  • Essential oils for beginners book
  • Roll-on bottles
  • Diffusers
  • Lip balm container
  • Inhalers

Their recipe subscription box is $39 per month and includes shipping. Each box’s contents have a $100+ retail value. The first box has a surprise bonus item, then each subsequent month, you will receive a new box with enough ingredients to make six new recipes.

Some of the things you will find in your box are essential oils, diffuser jewelry, reeds, and aroma inhalers.

The first bonus box contains beeswax, coconut oil, roll-on bottles, almond oil, and 6.5 ml bottles.

The Apothecary in Inglewood

An essential oil dropper with a bottle of essential oil

The Apothecary in Inglewood is a Candian company that specializes in various healthy products, including tea, essential oils, personal care, and zero waste home items.

The monthly club aims to help members learn more about essential oils. Each shipment contains detailed information about each oil that is shipped, including the history of the essential oil, common uses, chemistry and blending approaches.

The club is unusual, as you only receive a 20-drop sample of ‘conventional oils’ or a 6-drop sample of ‘precious oils’. The 6-drop sample size is unusual, but you won’t find many other clubs that include precious oils in their shipments.

Club options include 3 months for $22.50, 6 months for $39, and 12 months for $69. Because this is a Canadian company, American and international customers will need to pay extra for shipping.

Zenvea

The Bliss essential oil blend from Zenvea, along with its box and some lavender

Zenvea is a relatively small company that focuses on affordable high-quality essential oils. Their oils are ‘pure, undiluted and therapeutic grade’, while the company relies on high-quality ingredients.

While those terms are vague, it is clear that Zenvea does provide inexpensive essential oils, along with related items, such as diffusers and essential oil jewelry.

The subscription costs $10 per month and can be canceled at any time. Shipping and handling is included in the price, so $10 is literally all that you pay each month.

Each month’s shipment contains a new blend for the month, which is unique to Zenvea. This means that you’ll receive blends, rather than single source essential oils.

Essentials by Kikarose

A subscription box from Essentials by Kikarose, with various essential oils and pieces of jewelry.

Essentials by Kikarose is a little different. The company focuses on self-care and essential oil jewelry, rather than essential oils on their own.

The signup form for the subscription box reflects this focus, as members are asked about their favorite colors, whether their ears are pierced, their ring size and their wrist size.

Relatively few details are provided about what the subscription box contains each month. However, the site does say that members receive hand-crafted essential oil jewelry, an essential oil blend, and ‘a few other indulgences’.

Subscriptions cost $28 when paid month-to-month. A 3-month prepaid subscription costs $81 instead, while a 6-month version costs $156 and a 12-month version costs $300.

Essentially Simple Box

A fall Essentially Simple box containing various essential oils and body-related products

The Essentially Simple Box is another subscription that takes an unusual approach. This time, members receive a full-sized essential oil each month, along with the supplies needed to make multiple essential oil products themselves (making this box similar to craft-based subscriptions).

The type of item varies from month-to-month, but members could end up making beauty products, home cleaners, bath products, lotions, or something else entirely. Along with the ingredients, the monthly box provides all the instructions that members will need.

There is also an oil of the month subscription box, which provides at least 1 essential oil each month and instructions about how it can be used.

Unfortunately, pricing details aren’t provided for the boxes. You may need to drop the company an email before you can sign up.
