4 Premium Chardonnay of the Month Clubs

Whether you are new to wine or are a connoisseur, the chardonnay of the month clubs we’ve chosen will not let you down. They ship a variety of superior wines from all over the world conveniently to your door. They’re all powerful ways to become more familiar with the nuances of chardonnay wine.

Before we dig into the clubs, let’s start with the basics. Chardonnay is a green grape variety, made into wine, which originated in southern Burgundy France. Chardonnay is the most popular white wine in the world and makes up more than 90,000 acres of California vineyards.

Though it originated in Burgundy, chardonnay gained its notoriety after it came to California. The first cutting planted in the US was in 1912 by Ernest Wente of Wente Vineyards in San Fransisco.

Chardonnay wine gets its flavors from the fermentation process, as well as the vessel in which it is fermented. For a while, people loved the buttery or oaky flavors commonly associated with chardonnay. However, today wineries across the country are trying to take out some of those intense flavors by changing their process and fermentation vessels.

Thankfully for those who love those undertones, many vineyards are sticking with using their original process.

One of the top reasons chardonnay became so popular was due to it being an easy grape to grow. Another reason is that for many, it is a blank canvas that can possess an array of flavors. And finally, chardonnay is easy to pronounce; it is a non-intimidating wine and easy to drink. It is often a wine many new to the scene first turn to when introducing their pallet to the world of wine.

But chardonnay is not just for new wine drinkers, it has a long history and complex flavors many sommeliers promote and love. Additionally, chardonnay also comes in sparkling versions, like blanc de blanc, which only uses chardonnay grapes.

Chardonnay Box

Chardonnay Box, located in Sonoma California, works with wineries from all around but focuses on smaller boutique and midsize vineyards. They taste a variety of wines, only selecting their top picks, which are then tasted by their CEO, before ever reaching your door.

Their goal is to select superior wines that are not easily found at most restaurants or liquor stores; instead, they strive to bring you new unique wines you have never experienced.

The Chardonnay Box offers three different chardonnay of the month clubs to meet any chardonnay enthusiasts needs.

  • Try Before you Buy – A single bottle of chardonnay is shipped, and you have two weeks to cancel; if you enjoy the wine, you are automatically enrolled in their three bottle subscription.
  • Two Chardonnay Each Month
  • Three Chardonnay Each Month

After choosing your club, your chardonnay box is shipped out on the second Wednesday of each month. Each box contains a surprise, as they do not list a preset wine schedule; however, if you follow the Chardonnay Box blog, you may get a hint of at least one of the following month’s wine choices.

All of the subscriptions are month to month, so there is no commitment and can be canceled at any time.

Unfortunately, at this time Chardonnay Box only ships to select states: CA, ID, NM, MO, and Washington DC.

Chardonnay Wine Club

Chardonnay Wine Club selects its wines from vineyards in California, specifically from the Paso Robles and Santa Barbara regions. The wines are chosen from these areas because chardonnay is the predominant grape grown there. The unique terrain and climate make the region especially ideal for cultivating the perfect chardonnay grape.

The Chardonnay Wine Club strives to find new wines that you are not likely to have tried before, specifically choosing wines from boutique wineries that do not sell in mass quantities. The people at the Chardonnay Wine Club believe that wine should not be selected by its label, name, or even the Wine Spectator rating, but instead, because it is personally crafted by specialty wineries, whose passion is tasted in each bottle.

The Chardonnay Wine Club subscriptions are handled through Gourmet Food Clubs. Gourmet Food Clubs offer a unique array of gourmet delicacies, spices, and favorite comfort foods like bacon.

There are three chardonnay monthly subscriptions available. A 3-month version costs $169.99, a 6-month version costs $299.99, while a 12-month version costs $549.99.

Each month the recipient will receive two bottles of hand-selected chardonnays. Unfortunately, this wine club only ships within California.

Landmark Vineyards

Landmark Vineyards was founded by a group of wine enthusiasts, including the great-great-granddaughter of John Deere, in 1974. By 1989 Landmark Vineyards was solely owned by Damaris Deere Ford.

In 1991, Landmark Vineyards focused solely on creating chardonnay. However, over the years, they did expand again to include other varieties like pinot noir, grenache, and pinot gris.

Landmark Vineyards has two tasting rooms, Sonoma Valley and the Russian River Valley. The Sonoma Valley tasting room, offers tours, private tastings, and outdoor seating where you can enjoy the beauty of the Mayacamas Mountains.

The Russian River Valley tasting room is set inside the original kilns from 1905 and is recognized as a historical California landmark. Also, at the Russian River Valley tasting room, you can experience the estate-grown pinot noir.

When you sign up for Landmark Vineyards’ wine club, you will enjoy exclusive benefits such as:

  • 20% discount at the tasting rooms on all Landmark wines
  • Complimentary tastings for you and up to three guests
  • Exclusive invitations to events hosted at the Landmark Vineyards
  • Access to VIP tours and special tastings
  • Landmark Vineyards newsletter and seasonal offers

There are three wine clubs available. One focuses on chardonnay only, another focuses just on pinot noir, while the third includes both chardonnay and pinot noir.

All club options are available in either six or twelve bottle options. The wines included in each shipment are exclusively Landmark Vineyard wines and are all limited-production. Shipments are sent twice a year in mid-April and mid-October.
