Following the keto diet has so many benefits, from improving your overall health and wellness to successful weight loss. It’s a proven method and when done right it no doubt helps you achieve your health goals. All of that said – it’s hard sometimes! While they’re all sensible and scientifically backed, the keto diet has many restrictions.

Most sweet treats are off limits, as is anything high in carbs. There are still plenty of things you can eat, but adjusting to this new lifestyle is a process. Thankfully, you don’t have to give up every indulgence! As the keto trend has grown and more people are catching on, companies are paying attention. The result is an onslaught of keto-friendly foods, snacks, and treats that were previously off-limits!

The problem is, just because something is keto-friendly doesn’t mean it’s yummy, or even healthy! Keto-friendly bread, for instance, is a tricky one and it takes a masterful hand to succeed. If you’ve got a noxious sweet tooth, though, what you might be after above all else is ice cream! Ice cream is a universal treat and it’s a great way to cool off and relax in the warm weather. The best keto ice cream brands know how important this is and they’ve created some amazing, keto-friendly treats that are pretty healthy as ice cream goes!

The Best Keo Ice Cream Brands

1. Rebel Creamery

Rebel Creamery was created by a family who loved homemade ice cream, but eventually started learning more about the dangers of excessive sugar and carbs. As they began learning more about ketosis specifically and how you can train your body to burn fat for energy, they were intrigued.

The result of some hard work, research, and experimentation was Rebel Creamery – a wonderful collection of healthier, keto-friendly ice cream with so many amazing flavors. They’ve got all the classics, like chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and beyond. You can also find plenty of fun ones like chocolate peanut butter, banana peanut butter, snickerdoodle, and even birthday cake. To top it off, they’ve got some fruit sorbets to pick from too.

Exact ratios will vary a little based on flavor, but their classic vanilla ice cream has 190 calories per serving, along with 19 grams of fat, no sugar, two grams of protein, and four net carbs. Their flavors come from natural ingredients and extracts and they only use natural sweeteners. It’s some of the healthiest ice cream out there!

2. Enlightened Keto

Enlightened Keto believes that living a healthy lifestyle should be complemented and balanced with joy. This comes in many forms, but for many, joy follows an indulgence of their sweet tooth! While sugary snacks abound in today’s society, it’s not impossible to find a healthy sweet treat and that’s where Enlightened Keto comes in.

Their ice cream and an assortment of other sweet snacks are the perfect solutions to times when you need a little treat. Their flavors do not disappoint and the variety is incredible.

Their line of keto-friendly pints has a great selection of flavors and most of them have either two or three net carbs, with a handful of specialty flavors that contain a little more.

Their chocolate peanut butter is a great example. This flavor has 220 calories per serving with 19 grams of fat, less than a gram of sugar, and two net carbs. The pint is also gluten-free and kosher-friendly. The ingredients are simple, including things like cream, peanuts, egg yolks, milk protein, and monk fruit to sweeten,

While their entire collection isn’t exclusively keto-friendly, they still try their hardest to be as natural and healthy as possible. Other products include sundaes, cheesecakes, cones, cookies, bars, and more.

3. Halo Top

Halo Top is all about getting healthy, great-tasting ice cream to people from all walks of life. In addition to their keto series, they have a dairy-free collection! Even their “regular” ice cream is lighter than most, with an emphasis on natural ingredients and less focus on the bad stuff like excessive sugar and preservatives.

Their keto collection is pretty impressive, with a selection of pints and ice cream popsicles. They have lots of fun flavors like turtle cheesecake, sea salt caramel, banana cream pie, caramel butter pecan, and of course the classic vanilla bean.

The vanilla bean features only 140 calories per serving, with 10 grams of fat, three grams of fiber, only one gram of sugar, six grams of protein, and only four net carbs. It’s naturally sweetened with stevia, vanilla extract, and real vanilla bean specks. If you want to keep a consistent stock of this delectable ice cream in your freezer, Halo Top offers a fantastic door-to-door delivery service.

4. Nick’s

Nick’s Swedish Style Ice Cream all started when founder Nick Luthman was diagnosed as pre-diabetic. This meant he needed to change his diet and lifestyle, but he soon grew bored of what was essentially a keto diet before the term became mainstream. He missed the foods and snacks he used to enjoy… so he went about creating newer, healthier versions!

The biggest focus here is ice cream, specifically the delicious Swedish style that Nick so enjoys. They’ve got an impressive variety of flavors, from the basics like vanilla and strawberry to unique experiences like campfire s'mores, coffee caramel, Swedish cookie dough, birthday cake, and more.

The plain vanilla has 80 calories per serving with five grams of fat, seven grams of fiber, no sugar, and three grams of protein with only three net carbs across the whole pint! If you love the ice cream, they also have a fun selection of ice cream sandwiches with various flavors of both ice cream and cookies!

5. So Delicious

So Delicious is a well-known brand of dairy-free milk that many people on plant-based and vegan diets appreciate. They didn’t stop at milk, though! They knew that people crave all forms of dairy and that keto-friendly ice cream is a necessity.

Like their plant-based milk, they have a large selection of keto-friendly frozen desserts from a variety of milks – oat, almond, cashew, coconut, and soy. Everything they have is certified vegan, dairy-free, and non-GMO. You can sort through their products based on the milk type you prefer and see which flavors are available. The cashew milk base, for example, has a good selection of pints and ice cream popsicle treats.

If you’re looking for no sugar added, the coconut milk frozen treats are a good place to look. The vanilla bean coconut flavor has 130 calories per serving with nine grams of fat, ten grams of fiber, two grams of sugar, and two grams of protein. The vanilla has about four grams of net carbs per serving, but some flavors are as low as two.

Homemade Healthy Ice Cream

While “going out for ice cream” is a fun, charming activity that can be anything from romantic to family-friendly, making it at home can be just as fun! The best part about making ice cream at home is that it’s the healthiest possible option.

Things like frozen bananas and Greek yogurt are common at-home ingredients, but you’d be surprised what you can do with a little creativity.

Simple Vanilla Ice Cream

This recipe is the perfect example of a simple, healthy, and keto-friendly ice cream that you can make at home. The result contains only 3.2 net carbs per serving and is gluten-free, sugar-free, and egg-free.

The ingredients here include unsalted butter, heavy cream, monk fruit sweetener, vanilla extract, and unsweetened almond milk – that’s it! These are all things you can get at most local grocery stores.

There are a few different ways you can make this recipe. The easiest is with an ice cream maker, but it’s possible even without!

Vanilla or Chocolate

This recipe has only four ingredients and you can make it vanilla or chocolate! You only need canned coconut milk, a natural sweetener of choice, salt, and pure vanilla extract (or vanilla bean paste) to make this one. This is for the vanilla variation, you can add cacao powder, melted keto-friendly chocolate, or even some chocolate protein powder for a chocolate variation.

One serving of this ice cream has about 183 calories and four net carbs, which is just about on par with most store-bought keto brands! It also offers two grams of fiber and a small amount of iron.

While chocolate and vanilla are the two most popular ice cream flavors, you can manipulate either of these recipes to make different flavors. One simple solution is a protein powder in the flavor of your choice or even some real fresh fruit. Once you get the hang of the recipes themselves, it’ll become easy to experiment.
