Cornbread is one of those dishes that keto dieters often miss. After all, cornbread is such a popular recipe, especially for family occasions and holidays, and works well with many delicious sides.

The high carb nature of cornbread means that you simply can’t have it on a keto diet – or so you might expect. Thankfully, there are plenty of keto cornbread recipes that provide you with all the flavor of cornbread, while steering clear of the carbs.

As with any other type of keto bread, these recipes don’t entirely mimic regular bread. The flavor is often close, while the texture may not be what you expect. This pattern is just a side effect of keto ingredients.

It isn’t really a bad thing, especially as the finished bread will still taste fantastic. If you check out some of the recipes featured on this list, you’ll see exactly what I mean.

Cornbread Muffins

Jessica // Forget Sugar Friday

This first recipe comes from the site forgetsugarfriday.com. With this recipe, you’re making a type of cornbread muffin. Jessica mentions that the muffin style gives you smaller portion sizes, which are very convenient.

The recipe relies on a combination of coconut flour and almond meal. This approach provides you with the sweetness of coconut flour and the texture that almond meal has to offer.

Keto Cornbread And Stuffing

A slice of cornbread, with a skillet cornbread in the background
Cassidy // Cassidy’s Craveable Creations

If you want a larger serving of cornbread, this recipe from cassidyscraveablecreations.com could be a good choice. This time, the cornbread ends up being pretty sweet. Cassidy mentions that it is very similar to a cake.

She says that you could make stuffing from it or even serve it for dessert with a few added toppings.

If you plan to take the stuffing route, you may want to decrease the amount of sweetener included in the recipe. The recipe as written is somewhat too sweet to work well for stuffing.

Deliciously Sweet ‘Cornbread’

Website screenshot from Gnom-Gnom
Paola // Gnom-Gnom

Here’s another recipe that gives you a decent amount of cornbread at a time. It comes from the site gnom-gnom.com. Paola mentions that this version doesn’t entirely like cornbread.

This is partly because of the ingredients used. The previous recipes included coconut flour to create a cornbread-like flavor, while this version doesn’t include coconut flour at all.

Even so, the bread is worth trying out. It offers the same slight sweetness that you would expect from cornbread. The approach used also creates a fantastic crust.

This crust makes the cornbread taste even better and doesn’t make the recipe any more complicated to follow.

Grain Free Cheesy Cornbread

Cornbread in a glass dish with pumpkins in the background
Brenda // Sugar-Free Mom

This recipe comes from sugarfreemom.com and it follows a different style again. This time, the cornbread flavor comes mostly from the coconut flour.

There is also a surprise added ingredient that makes this recipe taste more like cornbread than most. The inclusion of cheese works well too, creating cornbread that is a little bit different.

On a side note, this version of cornbread doesn’t include almond flour at all. While almond flour (or almond meal) can create an appealing texture, it isn’t suitable for anyone with nut allergies.

Some schools are also starting to focus on nut-free foods, so this cornbread recipe ends up being especially versatile.

Paleo Cornbread Muffins With Jalapenos

Cornbread muffins from Wholesome Yum
Maya // Wholesome Yum

Here’s another recipe that has you making individual cornbread muffins. These muffins are very simple, as they only require eight different ingredients.

You can also include the sliced jalapenos that you can see in the image. These provide a fantastic kick to the muffins, bringing them into a class of their own.

The recipe is another one that avoids almond flour, making it ideal for anyone with nut allergies. All the details can be found at wholesomeyum.com.

Low Carb Cornbread – Baby Corn and Cheddar

Website screenshot from Keto Connect
Megha // Keto Connect

This recipe, from ketoconnect.com, is promoted as one of the best cornbread recipes out there.  The claim has its merits too, as this is one of the few that includes corn as an ingredient.

The recipe shows that it is possible to include corn on a keto diet if you’re careful about the quantities.

Despite the use of corn, this recipe manages to keep the net carb content down to just three grams per serving. How’s that for impressive?

Keto Cornbread

Cornbread in a frying pan
Elana // Elana’s Pantry

This cornbread is fantastic if you want an easy to follow recipe. There are only six ingredients included and a total of five steps (one of which is simply serving the cooked bread). Can it get any simpler than that?

The large number of comments suggests that this is an incredibly popular recipe.

Elana is also fantastic at responding to the comments and questions that website visitors make. You can find her responses and the recipe itself at elanaspantry.com.

Cornbread With Jalapenos

A stack of cornbread squares
Alex // Cast Iron Keto

The optional ingredients in this recipe are really what make it stand out. Alex  from castironketo.com suggests that you can add cheese, bacon and/ or jalapenos.

Any one of those ingredients would make the bread taste good, while all three would just be phenomenal. Using these ingredients also makes the bread look much more interesting.

Simple Keto Cornbread

A square of cornbread with butter
Sabra // This Mom’s Menu

This recipe, from thismomsmenu.com, looks like the cornbread recipes from many other sites. It does have plenty of similarities, but there are also some key differences.

These differences seem to be due to the way the recipe was developed. Sabra mentioned that one of her trial runs for keto Hawaiian rolls ended up tasting similar to cornbread.

She developed the current recipe by tweaking the one from her trial run. The end result is a great balance of ingredients and a flavor that you’re certain to love.

Mama’s Sweet Keto Cornbread

Cornbread in a pan with a large slice removed
Rosa // Faith 4 Keto Kitchen

Here’s another recipe to consider. This time it comes from the site faith4ketokitchen.com. The recipe makes a total of 16 servings, which each contain 6.3 grams of net carbs.

This carb content is higher than the ideal for a keto diet, but you could still eat the cornbread as long as you planned for it.

Low Carb Bacon And Cheese Cornbread

Website screenshot from The Ketogenic Kitchen
Daniella // The Ketogenic Kitchen

Daniella from ketogenickitchen.com offers this cornbread recipe that you can try. This one contains around five net grams of carbs per serving.

It also includes bacon and cheese. Those ingredients complement the flavor of cornbread so well. The finished cornbread looks fantastic too, which is always an added bonus.

Drooling Keto Cornbread

Website screenshot from Keto Diet for Health
Anosh // Keto Diet for Health

This recipe is a simple but powerful choice for all cornbread lovers. It comes from the site ketodietforhealth.com and entirely relies on common keto ingredients.

The recipe is one that uses almond flour as the low carb flour of choice. As a result, the cornbread flavor won’t be a strong as some of the other recipes. Even with this limitation, the recipe works well and would be popular if you served it to guests.

Jalapeno Cheddar Cornbread

Cornbread in a glass dish
Emilie // Tales of a Texas Granola Girl

Why stick with regular cornbread, when you can make something like this jalapeno cheddar cornbread? The recipe is more savory than most, making it especially good as an ingredient for stuffing or a side for a recipe like chili or jambalaya.

The combination of ingredients means that the cornbread looks stunning too.

It has a more interesting texture than usual, along with some amazing flavors. You can try it out for yourself by following the recipe at texasgranolagirl.com.

Brown Butter & Sage Skillet Cornbread

A cut up loaf of cornbread with the recipe title overlaid on top
Heather // Heather Beardsley

While we’re on the topic of interesting flavors, what about this cornbread choice? Heather mentions that the recipe was originally developed to help make a sausage and sage cornbread stuffing.

The end result turned out so good that Heather posted the cornbread as a recipe on its own. While the recipe does use more ingredients than some of the other recipes on this list, it still isn’t too complex to prepare. You can check it out for yourself at hbeardsley.com.

Easy Keto Cornbread

Cornbread in a black dish with Jalapenos
Brenna // Castle in the Mountains

This cornbread, from castleinthemountains.com, is impressive because it just contains two net grams of carbs per serving. The cornbread also has a crispy crust at the bottom when you bake it in a cast iron skillet.

As part of the recipe, Brenna provides details about how to change the flavor or texture. This includes leaving out the sweetener to create a more savory version of cornbread.

Cheesy Crawfish Cornbread

A stack of cornbread
Shelly // Skinny Louisiana

This is a fun recipe to try out if you like your cornbread cheesy. The title of the recipe is accurate too – this cornbread does contain crawfish tails.

While this is an unusual ingredient choice, it does provide you with more protein than cornbread normally contains. In fact, a serving contains just two grams of net carbs and an impressive seven grams of protein.

You can check it out for yourself at skinnylouisiana.com.

Keto No Corn Cornbread

Website screenshot from That Low Carb Life
Karly // That Low Carb Life

Here’s a recipe from the site thatlowcarblife.com. It’s a particularly good recipe, as it gets pretty close to the taste and texture of regular cornbread, without using any unusual ingredients.

In fact, the ingredients in the mix are all common items in a keto pantry. You can make it in a cast iron skillet or in a baking dish depending on your preference.

Low Carb Keto Cornbread

A skillet that contains cornbread
Katrin // Sugar Free Londoner

This recipe creates a moist and fluffy cornbread. Katrin includes jalapenos, bacon and cheese to create a Mexican flavor, but you can skip one or all of those ingredients if you want to.

I personally think those items are a great addition. They make the cornbread much more interesting and create a fantastic texture. The recipe comes from the site sugarfreelondoner.com.

Easy Keto Cornbread (Skillet)

Website screenshot from Fit to Serve Group
Hilda // Fit to Serve Group

Here’s another recipe to consider. It comes from the site fittoservegroup.com. You’re making ten servings of cornbread at a time. Each of them contains roughly three net grams of carbs.

The recipe doesn’t use coconut flour, so the cornbread taste isn’t as strong as with some other recipes. However, Hilda does mention that you can add in corn flavor extract to create a more noticeable cornbread taste.

Keto Cornbread

Website screenshot from Savory Tooth
Julia // Savory Tooth

This recipe, from savorytooth.com, creates cornbread that isn’t intensely sweet. Julia also recommends that you measure the sweetener and almond flour by weight, rather than volume.

This approach is more accurate. It helps to make sure your cornbread turns out as it should. The recipe also includes some useful baking tips and images to help you along the way.

Jalapeno ‘Cornbread’

A square white dish containing three pieces of cornbread
Megan // The Mermaid with Muscles Blog

The jalapenos in this cornbread create interesting green specks that make the every piece stand out. Each serving contains slightly more than four grams of net carbs, along with plenty of protein and fat.

Megan (from meganseelinger.com) also mentions a cool trick as part of her discussion. She suggests cutting up the cornbread into small squares. These can be placed in an air fryer to create croutons.

Paleo ‘Cornbread’ With Keto Option

Squares of cornbread
Julia // The Roasted Root

Unlike most recipes on this list, the cornbread from theroastedroot.net wasn’t developed for keto dieters. Instead, the recipe is designed to provide paleo cornbread.

Instructions are included for how to tweak the recipe to create a keto version, which just involves swapping out the sweetener. As always, the finished result isn’t exactly like cornbread, but it is pretty close.

Paleo Keto Cornbread

A loaf of cornbread with two cut slices and a knife
Kelly // A Girl Worth Saving

Here’s another paleo recipe to consider. This one works for keto dieters too, without the need for any changes. The recipe comes from agirlworthsaving.com and is an easy recipe to follow.

Coconut flour is the only type flour included, which creates the cornbread-like flavor. As part of the recipe, Kelly provides instructions for how to make your bread nice and golden.

The same technique could probably be used with other types of keto bread as well.

Cheddar Jalapeno ‘Cornbread’

Website screenshot from Keto Cooking Christian
Julianne // Keto Cooking Christian

The combination of cheese and jalapenos in cornbread seems to be a common choice. It’s not one that I’ve ever tried myself, but I’m starting to see how the idea could be appealing.

This particular version of the style comes from the site ketocookingchristian.com.

The most interesting part is the inclusion of sweet corn in the recipe. This is rarely done in keto cornbread, but the idea does provide some of the flavor from corn without adding in many carbs.

Southern-Style Cornbread

Website screenshot from Better than Bread Keto
Logan // Better Than Bread Keto

Despite the title, this cornbread recipe is for sweetened cornbread. Logan mentions that he has lived his entire life in the South and has always been served sweet cornbread.

After he posted this recipe, he learned that sweetened cornbread is generally considered a Northern approach, not a Southern one. Regardless, the cornbread is worth trying.

The recipe is an especially good one for beginners, as there are plenty of troubleshooting tips included. It isn’t a complicated recipe either, so it should be easy to follow. You can find all of the information at betterthanbreadketo.com.

Jalapeno Cornbread Mini Loaves

Small pieces of cornbread with jalapenos
Craig // Ruled.me

There are plenty of amazing recipes on the site ruled.me, like these cornbread mini loaves. I particularly love the size of the loaves. It seems like these would be perfect for snacks or for bringing to a party.

Like some other recipes on this list, this one uses sweet corn extract to create the cornbread flavor. Doing so means that the recipe can use almond flour rather than coconut flour.

Keto Cornbread Muffins

Keto cornbread cooked in a skillet
Anna // Keto in Pearls

This cornbread recipe is one of the simplest examples that you’ll find. It’s also a powerful recipe, as there is only a single net gram of carbs per serving. One interesting aspect is that the recipe post has been rewritten since it was first developed.

This is why the recipe talks about cornbread muffins, while the images are for a much larger skillet-based cornbread.

You can use either style, as instructions are included for both. The recipe itself comes from the site ketoinpearls.com.

Keto ‘Cornbread’ Muffins

Cornbread muffins in a tray and a cutting board
Louise // The Keto Summit

While we’re on the topic of keto muffins, here’s another recipe to check out. This one was written by Louise at ketosummit.com. This time the recipe uses a combination of almond and coconut flour.

While this choice isn’t very common, it seems to be the best way to balance flavor and texture. One final advantage is that this recipe is simple.

You don’t need any complicated items and you’ll probably have all the ingredients on hand already.

Sausage Jalapeno Skillet Cornbread

Cornbread with sausage on a plate and in a skillet
Carolyn // All Day I Dream About Food

Here’s an unusual variation on cornbread. The recipe comes from alldayidreamaboutfood.com and adds sausage into the mix.

The approach creates a particularly hearty example of cornbread, one that is certain to keep you satisfied. Each serving of the bread contains roughly 4.4 net grams of carbs.

Coconut Flour Cornbread

Website screenshot from Low Carb Yum
Lisa // Low Carb Yum

This cornbread recipe from lowcarbyum.com is a simpler example, but is also a surprisingly effective one. The bread ends up being very low in carbs, with just 1.5 net grams of carbs per serving.

That’s a pretty impressive outcome, as the recipe does use baby corn. It includes coconut flour too, making it taste more similar to cornbread than most other examples.

Cheesy Crackin’ Cornbread

Website screenshot from Ketovangelist Kitchen
Mandy // Ketovangelist Kitchen

Here’s a recipe that aims to mimic Southern style cornbread, which means that it has a crispy crust and is not sweet. The cornbread is similar to some other examples, in that it uses a combination of coconut flour and almond flour to give the desired texture.

However, the recipe also uses pork rinds to create a fantastic crust and various other ingredients to add flavor. You can find the full recipe at ketovangelistkitchen.com.

Keto Induction Cornbread

Website screenshot from Fluffy Chix Cook
Susie // Fluffy Chix Cook

This recipe comes from Susie at fluffychixcook.com. Susie makes her cornbreads in small skillets, which is a clever way to get individual servings while taking full advantage of what a cast iron skillet has to offer.

The recipe just makes two small cornbread servings at a time, making it ideal if you cook for one. There are some interesting ingredients included in the recipe too, which help the cornbread to stand out from other options.

Low Carb Cornbread

A square slice of cornbread on a plate
Joan and Chris // Tasty Low Carb

If you like the idea of using corn extract, this recipe is another one that you can try. It comes from the site tasty-lowcarb.com and makes 12 servings at a time.

The recipe uses coconut flour in addition to the corn extract, which makes the corn flavor even stronger. Each serving contains roughly 2.2 grams of net carbs, so you can easily fit at least one serving on your keto diet, if not more.

Cornbread

Website screenshot from No Bun Please
Dominic // No Bun Please

This final recipe comes from the site nobunplease.com. The recipe includes sweet corn as an optional ingredient. That corn does add to the carb content, but the number of extra carbs per serving are pretty low.

This is also a good recipe to check out because it has a few unusual ingredients included. These should help to provide some extra flavor and nutrition to the finished cornbread.
