Ordering food online is popular right now. You can order precooked frozen meals, meal kits (think: Blue Apron), diet planners, online grocery shopping, or even online coaches that can meal plan for you.

Muscle Meals 2 Go carves out a nice niche of people that want to take advantage of these time-saving services, but also want to lose weight and gain muscle.

I tried Muscle Meals 2 Go for a couple weeks, and here’s what I thought. In my review of Muscle Meals 2 Go, I want to cover:

  • what I ate
  • how it tasted
  • how much it costs
  • how it compares to similar services
  • would I order it again?

Keep reading to see if MM2G will fit in your diet/gym plan.

Ordering Muscle Meals 2 Go

When you order Muscle Meals, you’ve got a couple choices. The main options are LEAN, GAIN, or KETO which are pretty easy to understand. However, the way it’s organized on their website isn’t super clear, so let’s figure this out.

Under gain, you get their “standard” meals, which consist of 6oz of food, and contain an average of 51g Protein | 54g Carbs | 12g Fat.

You can choose 12, 18, or 24 meals, which cost $10.25, $10.00, and $9.75 per meal (respectively).

With lean, you get 27g Protein | 29g Carbs | 6g Fat. Those are 3oz meals, and cost $8.25, $8.00, and $7.50 for 12, 18, or 24 meals.

With keto, you can choose the 6-day meal plan for men or women. For women, the cost is $199, for men, it’s $284. Each one contains 18 Main Course Meals, 6 Breakfasts and 6 Snacks.

In addition, you can also opt for their normal keto meal kit which will cost $123, $183, or $230 for 12, 18, or 24 meals. That works out to about $9.58 per serving (meal), but does not factor in shipping.

Yeah, it’s all a bit confusing, but basically you need to decide if you want to gain/lose weight and whether or not you want the keto option (recommended – I love keto)

The pricing is very fair, especially when you consider how good the food actually was. Some places are charging more than $15 per serving for frozen meals delivered!

Upgrading For More Protein

If you want more muscles, protein is the way to go. They offer an upgrade from 6oz to 9oz protein for a very reasonable price.

  • 12 Meal Protein Upgrade: $27
  • 18 Meal Protein Upgrade: $40
  • 24 Meal Protein Upgrade: $53

You can also cut the carbs, and go veggies only for $5 flat, no matter how many meals you order.12 Meal Veggie Swap: $5.

These options do not seem available for the Keto meals, though you could do a veggie swap and get more protein for a similar effect, though I suspect there will be less fat in these meals. I’m surprised I couldn’t find a meat upgrade with Keto, but I guess the focus is fat, and not really protein.

Try ’em both and let me what you think.

Shipping & Packaging from Muscle Meals 2 Go

My box of Muscle Meals 2 Go arrived cold, and ready to pack in my freezer/fridge. No problems with delivery!

The actual meal trays were solid, and easy to handle. It seems weird to mention, but many frozen meals come in super cheap, flimsy plastic that make handling when hot a real chore.

I tried these meals in both the microwave and conventional oven. Of course, the oven-cooked meals tasted better, but microwaving wasn’t too bad compared to something like TrueFare, which was just plain disgusting when microwaved.

Cooking with Muscle Meals 2 Go

Very much to my surprise, the meals form Muscle Meals 2 Go were solid. The sometimes shoddy graphics on their website made me skeptical, plus frozen meals are extremely hit and miss.

In fact, there have already been two frozen-meal services that I’ve reviewed negatively in recent months.

However, Muscle Meals 2 Go beat my expectations in terms of flavor, meal size, and most of all – texture. Freezen meals does a disservice to most foods, but MM2G pulled it off decently.

Two of my favorite meals were featured below. In fact, my introduction to MM2G was the buffalo chicken melt from the Keto line of meals they offer. It was creamy, not dry (despite being shredded chicken), and very filling.

The asparagus on the 2nd photo actually had a little bit of crisp left in them, instead of being soggy and limp.

Not all meals were winners though! The sweet potatoes in the top/right block (image below) were pretty bad – way too much cinnamon! And the egg frittata or whatever that thing is on the bottom/right was too springy/spongy. Bleh.

However the beef noodles were good (according to my girlfriend), and the beef shown on the bottom/left image was actually quite delicious – chunky and satisfying to eat, but not chewy and dry like a lot of the crappy meat cuts are that you get in this style of meal deliveries.

The meals you see above were sent to me for free, but I plan on joining their Keto service to get a wider variety of meal photos.

Suggestions For Improvement

The muscle meals food was great, and I’m just casually trying to get leaner with keto and gym, so I wasn’t counting macros. However, I think it would be cool if Mucle Meals 2 Go offered a comprehensive macro calculator and could tailor your meals that way.

The reason I say this is because if you are counting macros, you’re still going to have to do it manually and cannot wholly rely on MM2G to do it for you, even if you are on a meal plan.

That being said, they do have all your macros printed on the side of each package, and that’s going to make your calorie counting much easier.

21g fat for keto? Great! 230 calories for a standard LITE meal? Perfect. These are some good-looking macros for your goals

MM2G also has some training programs, meal plans, and coaching programs in their Better Bodies 2 Go sister site, but it’s not super clear what these offer, and if they tie into the meals.

Canceling Muscle 2 Go

There’s nothing to cancel at this point, since they do not have an autoship option. That means you’ll have to re-order each time, but it also means you get to sit down and customize your meals each time.

Autoship would probably be easier, since we know you’re going to keep lifting. Right?!

Comparing Muscle Meals To Other Services

In terms of food quality, so far they are one of my favorite. Another great frozen meal delivery service I tried was Factor 75. They also have keto meals available, though you have to hand-select them from what’s available.

Similar to MM2G, the meat was tender, the veggies were crips, and the selection was variegated. In terms of flavor, I preferred Muscle Meals more often, but my top 2 meals came from Factor 75 (shrimp & steak, shown in the review link above).

I already mentioned that True Fare was trash. They are supposed to be keto, but failed at it, and the food was terrible.

Eatology was middle of the road. Some meals were passable, others pretty bad. 1-2 meals out of the whole box were “delicious”. Their philosophy is more about being holistic paleo, rather than gym gains.

Let’s assume you’re here for the gainz.

Here’s the full list of bodybuilding meal deliveries, but you may also want to try out meal kits (you gotta cook those!) if you enjoy cooking and you can customize those to be more consistent with your diet goals.

Final Thoughts

Muscle Meals 2 Go delivered good food, at a reasonable price. Whether you want to lose weight, gain muscle, or be more consistent with your keto diet, they’re a good company to try out.

I enjoyed the variety pack of meals, and will update this review when I get back from vacation and try out their keto meals.
