A marinade and rub of the month club is the ideal way to try some new products from all over the country. Some subscriptions are for one or the other, but some are a combination of the two. Whether it is for yourself or a loved one, a rub and marinade subscription is the perfect way to celebrate the changing of the seasons.

First, before we get into the great debate of rubs versus marinades, it needs to be stated that the terms grilling and barbecuing are used interchangeably.

For hardcore backyard chefs, this may irritate you, but the reality is that for the majority of the world, they mean the same thing. However, the truth is there are three primary styles of backyard cooking:

  • Grilling – A faster way of cooking using higher temps for foods such as steaks, burgers, and brats
  • Barbecuing – A slow lower temp form of cooking meats such as pork shoulder or brisket
  • Smoking – A slow low temp form of cooking using wood chips or pellets to infuse the meat with different flavors used for meat like brisket, ribs, and pork butt

Rubs are a method used to flavor the outside of the meat and aid in creating a nice bark when smoking the meat. A dry rub is a combination of dried herbs, spices, and sugars. A wet rub is a dry rub combined with a sauce or liquid.

A marinade is a liquid used to help tenderize and flavor the meat. Marinating is a process that is completed before cooking the meat and can take anywhere from 30 minutes to more than 12 hours.

There's nothing like the smell of the first steaks on the barbeque or brisket in the smoker to let you know spring is finally here. And grilling season means its time to get out our favorite rubs and marinades or try some new ones. So, why not check these clubs out?
