After an exhausting day of work, the last thing anyone wants is to start scrounging for something to cook and eat. Often, you find out that you need some condiment or meat, which then means having to run out to the store for some quick grocery shopping. This is how people give up on the paleo diet, and it’s why Paleo meal kit services can save you from “giving up”.
A meal kit service takes the frustration out of it all! Meal kit services ship out the ingredients you need to whip up a gourmet-style meal in the shortest time possible.
Of the paleo meal kits below, my favorite, by far, is Sunbasket. Best flavor. Unique recipes. Fun to cook. Lots of customization options. For easier recipes, try Green Chef.
Meal kits deliver most of what you need to make your meal according to your diet, sometimes even allowing you to request specific meals. Some services even deliver prepped, diced, chopped, and portioned ingredients, while others let you do the work. Hey, cooking is a pleasure for some (including myself)!
All you have to do is follow the included recipe instructions and you’ll have a healthy meal ready in under 30 minutes.
Anyone who follows the Paleo lifestyle knows the value of maintaining its fundamental principles. It isn’t always easy when you have to plan, shop, and cook these meals yourself.
Paleo meal kit services make it a more straightforward process to stick to the basics of paleo by shipping out what you need to prepare your preferred paleo dishes. It also takes the guesswork out of the process.
I thought there would be more paleo-based meal kit services, but I only came across these three so far. If you know of more, please let me know in the comments so I can update. I did, however, find a total of 16 paleo meal delivery services that deliver ready-made meals you can just heat up and eat. No prep necessary! That’ll cut down even more time on your cooking schedule!
Paleo Meal Kits
Green Chef
With its headquarters in Aurora, Colorado, Green Chef is a meal kit delivery company focusing on organic, healthy, and sustainably sourced foods.
Almost everything they use is certified organic which means that there are no GMOs, no growth hormones or antibiotics, and no synthetic pesticides in their meals. As some companies point out, it isn’t possible for all ingredients to be organic, as there aren’t organic programs for some options (such as fish). Beyond this, they emphasize using seasonal ingredients from sustainable suppliers and small family farms.
Green Chef doesn’t specifically focus on paleo. Actually, none of the services in this list do. But, Green Chef does have multiple plans that suit various dietary decisions. This does include a paleo menu. The website offers examples of the meals that are offered, including Shrimp Scampi (with grain-free pasta), Steak Frites, and Sole Roulades.
However, the company doesn’t provide details about how it defines paleo. As such, it’s not clear whether some of the more controversial and debated ingredients are included or excluded. Dairy is one example of this.
Each recipe also includes a different green salad that is damn delicious, and the cooking instructions are concise and straightforward. I’ve even tried out this service myself! You can check out my review for more details about the service and my personal experiences. They use high-quality containers to pack your meals, but they are not reusable, and some organic ingredients may lose their integrity due to the pre-prepped process.
They have a variety of meal plans which include the Omnivore option for $11.99 per meal, Vegetarian at $10.49 per meal, Carnivore charging $13.49 per meal, Vegan for $11.99, Paleo costing $14.99, and Gluten-free for $13.49
Currently, Green Chef delivers to Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Iowa, Nevada, Missouri, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Nebraska, California, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, and South Dakota.
Sunbasket
The Francisco-based Sunbasket is a meal delivery service that delivers farm-fresh, organic and sustainable ingredients. The meats chosen are also antibiotic-free and hormone-free.
They offer various meal kit options including Paleo, Gluten-Free, Family Options, Lean & Clean, and Vegetarian. This is another service that I’ve used myself. So, you can read that review for additional details about the service and the food they provide.
Sunbasket has two special menus, the Family and the Classic menu. Each then offers various specific meal plans you can choose. Of these, only the Classic menu has a Paleo Plan.
For the Classic Menu, you can get three recipes each week at $11.99 per serving, and a total weekly cost of $71.94 with two or four serving options. The Paleo Plan focuses on high-protein recipes and excludes dairy, gluten, soy, corn, and grains.

Sunbasket is one of the very few meal kit companies that is certified for organic food (with Green Chef above being another).
They only deal with trusted farmers including meat and poultry, ranchers, and fishers. The meal kit service is an excellent solution for most people who have limited time for meal prep and recipe planning. Plus, they have a superb selection of Paleo recipes to try out.

One other cool thing is that you can contact customer care if you don’t like their meals (within seven days of receiving an order). They will replace the particular item or refund you for that specific meal.
PlateJoy
PlateJoy is one of those services that doesn’t neatly fit into a category and it isn’t quite a meal kit service. Instead, the emphasis is on meal planning. The company takes your preferences and develops a comprehensive meal plan for you based on those. This includes recipes that you can follow and a full grocery list.
The service also pairs with Instacart. So, if you’re in one of the 31 US states that Instacart serves, you can get ingredients delivered to your door from a local store.
Of course, these won’t be prepped and all ready for you like with the other services on this list. But, you’ve still saved a lot of time in the process. You can see what that looks like in my full review.
And, let’s be honest. The process of meal planning is tough at the best of times. A diet like paleo can make that even more confusing. After all, there are so many ingredients that you can’t include in your meals, not to mention countless recipes to choose from.
PlateJoy makes the entire process easy and it’s pretty inexpensive too. For example, a 6-month plan costs $69, while a 12-month plan is $99. That’s pretty good per month for the time that you save.
Instacart costs are extra and that service does charge a delivery fee. But, the end costs are often more reasonable than a conventional meal kit service and you get a ton more flexibility in the process.
